Delaware Division of Public Health on Enterovirus

State health officials have identified a cluster of respiratory illnesses affecting children in Delaware aged 7 months to 14 years. EV-D68 is a non-polio enterovirus that is causing respiratory illnesses in children in several states, including Pennsylvania and New Jersey. Enteroviruses are very common respiratory illnesses with more than 10 to 15 million cases occurring in the United States each year. Most people with enteroviruses have no symptoms or only mild symptoms, such as fever, runny nose, sneezing, cough and body and muscle aches, but some infections can be serious, especially in children with asthma. Parents should be aware of these signs and symptoms and if they do occur, it is particularly important to contact your health care provider. For anyone who is having difficulty breathing, call 911 immediately.  For more information, visit:
